The Edmund Rice centre in Mirrabooka provides support to Aboriginal families.
Brother Phil O’Loghlen, has been working with Edmund Rice centre since 1999.
For many years Phil dedicated his time to give a basic life education to Aboriginal children. He empowers children to take control of their own lives and motivates them to follow an education, to build an encouraging environment and to recognise their local community and culture.
The aims of the programme are to foster positive social interaction and to promote the Indigenous culture through story, dance, music and art. The sessions are held each week on Wednesday between 4.15 pm to 5.30 pm. The children are picked up and dropped off from their home by bus.
Manos supports the actions of the Edmund Rice Centre as we share a philosophy that education can provide opportunities and it is important for a child’s future to be taught life skills. The afterschool programme is carried out in a nurturing environment with input from positive role models in the community.
Our goal is to be able to provide ongoing financial assistance as we feel this will ensure the continuing success of this programme. The annual budget for the programme is $20,000 and Manos’ aim is to be a long-term sponsor. This includes costs for essential items such as facility hire, materials, resources and running expenses for the bus.
We would also like to provide financial assistance to students and their families who are experiencing problems meeting the school costs for book fees, uniforms and other necessary supplies that are required in the year.
For more information about the organisation we invite you to contact Phil directly on 9440 0625.
